MAINE - FALL BLACK BEAR HUNTING
When you arrive at Sportsman's Pride Outfitters you will be surrounded by large tracts of beautiful farmland and vast areas of wilderness with plenty of water. This area is an ideal black bear habitat with lots of oversized bears. We hunt in the northern most area of Maine in the St. John Valley in Aroostook county. The area we hunt is approximately 600 sq. miles of private farm country that has never received any pressure from other outfitters. We lease most of our farms which gives up exclusive bear hunting. Most baiting is done by ATV. We cater toward trophy bow hunters, but we also have well placed gun stands.
We are taking only 10 hunters per week for the first 2 weeks of fall season. Compare us with most Maine camps that take 30 to 50 per week and cram clients in pick-up and vans to transport to bait sites and you'll see a distinct difference in our hunts. You generally get what you pay for in life.
Trophy CareWe provide complete trophy care including skinning, quartering and freezing. We also butcher (cut and wrap) your bear for a nominal fee.
How We HuntFact: Maine has the largest population of black bears in the lower 48 states. Over 80% of all bears shot in Maine come from Aroostook County. Statewide average runs between 20 and 24% on kills. We have successfully run over 50% for years on kills, better than twice the state average. 74% of bears killed in the state are harvested over bait. Check out our Newsletter for recent stats. Last 3 seasons we had every hunter in camp see bears 100%. In 2003, we harvested 3 bears over 400 lbs in Maine. 26 out of 32 clients shot bears. We have a great success rate. In 2005, clients averaged seeing over 4 bears each on their hunts. Our bear hunting is done over bait, however, spot and stalk opportunities do exist in our many oat fields. All of the baits that are hunted are very active. We try to put you on a bait that will give you your best chance at harvesting a bear. Baits are very carefully placed, with bow shots being an average of 12 to 15 yards. Rifle shots about 30 to 40 yards. They also attract and offer the opportunity to harvest coyotes. Tree stands or ground blinds are offered to accommodate our hunters.
We guarantee an active bait. We are proud of the individual attention we offer. Top notch equipment, facilities, and personnel are offered. Keith and his staff do their best to make your hunt and stay a safe, successful, and memorable outdoor experience. Also Keith is a full-time Taxidermist when he is not hunting. He has a studio with many mounts on display to show you.
