January 2017 has me right in the middle of my taxidermy season. Starting mounts this week after having finished all my tanning. All meat orders from this past 2016 hunts have been completed and shipped to customers, hopefully satisfying there taste buds for months to come.

I am looking forward to our spring 2017 bear season as I have all my bait ready to go. Will be able to get into the timber first week of May, as usual, as hopefully all our snow will be gone by then. Dec. alone brought us over 70 inches. We are taking deposits for our up and coming hunts for 2017. This spring we are going to hunt the last week of May and first 3 weeks of June. We still have availability. We only take 6 clients a week and after making these, much needed recent updates to our site, we should be booked up fast.

Last year our hunts were very successful. We saw the coldest, wettest spring I’ve ever seen in my life but were still successful. Our weight avg. was down but our success rate was 12 out of 15 hunters harvested a bear and we killed our biggest bear ever in the spring. He weighed in at a whopping 477# a true giant old boar. Killed him at 18 yards out of a ground blind.

Fall hunts were great. We ran at 100% on shot opportunities on mature bears. We had a 193# avg. I used 51 barrels (55 gall.) of pastries and donuts, 20 barrels of oats and over 75  5 gall. Jugs of fryer grease. 25 bags of corn and 11 blocks of vanilla nougat that weighed 400# each. Over 40 barrels of meat scraps. That’s a lot of bait.

I had one moose hunter as tags are getting harder to get as they are dropping the number of available tags. Our moose #’s are dropping significantly, due to ticks and brutal winters. I had a couple of nice guys from mass. They drew a moose tag here in Maine.  First afternoon we called out a  53” old mature bull and shot him at less than 10 yards. It was as exciting as it gets as that bull came in hot. It took him over 45 minutes to finally commit to the call. He hung up for a while but hitting him with just the right calls closed the deal. These 2 guys were excited and ecstatic.  A great hunt!!!!

Give me a call if you are interested in a trophy bear hunt and look over our site thoroughly as it covers a lot of great info about what we offer. I think you will see a big difference in our hunts compared to other outfitters. We added a FAQ page which has answers to a lot of the questions that I get in emails . If you are fortunate enough to draw one of the coveted moose tags from Maine or New Brunswick give me a call and we will put you on a big one.  Download our brochure here.
